About the Cover…

This year’s bluebonnets and Indian paint brushes are the best we’ve ever had in our yard.”—Tom Hausler

Some years are better than others, and this year seems like one of the best in recent memory. Blooming bluebonnets started popping up in San Marcos, Texas, during the first week of March this year. Now they are appearing in large swathes along the roadways and fields across Hays County.

This month’s cover photograph is provided by Hays County Master Naturalist Tom Hausler. If you are not familiar with Tom’s photography, check out this Humm article from October last year: Westcave Preserve Honors.

Tom shared the following seven shots of his yard covered in wildflowers, taken March 29, 2024.

This is the only place on earth bluebonnets grow, and once a year they come and go at this old house here by the road.
