Ask a Texas Wildlife and Plant ExpertI have a shady area where I would like to plant some flowers that will bloom. Is there anything that will bloom in the shade?

That’s a great question. We would like to introduce you to a wonderful resource that we use a lot. The Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center website has a search feature that lets you enter the characteristics/features you want, and it tells you which plants fit your criteria.

It allows you to search by size, amount of light (sun/shade), soil moisture, bloom time, bloom color, leaf arrangement, and leaf retention (evergreen/deciduous).

Here is a link to the search: http://www.wildflower.org/plants/

Try it. It’s fun!!
